Almost biggrin.gif.

But last year, after the final, the picture of a crying Jarkko Ruutu on the tabloids makes me biased about anything he does. He can chop someone's head off and I'll just smile and say "but he cried after the final".

Well, in reality, not at all. I take injuring someone very seriously, whether it's intentional or not.

What I meant about Murray's comments was that in that moment I wasn't sure if it was dirty, but afterwards he said he had warned Morozov, which makes it sound completely intentional!

Aameul, I'm agreeing with you here, that was a horrible thing to do!

In all honesty, I think that Murray would mop the ice with Ruutu. One is a heavyweight, one is a pest - though outside of the NHL, there is little difference I guess. The hit itself was clean, the only slight problem is that while Morozov was going for the puck, a Swede got in the way. Murray did follow through (ill-advised, perhaps) but I don't think that it should have been a match-penalty. It does say in the IIHF rules that if a player does something illegal and injures someone, it should be a match-penalty, but as the hit itself was not illegal (ignoring minor details like who has the puck etc.) I don't see the problem smile.gif

One thing that really bugs me is that they gave him a checking from behind penalty. They have to call something, but surely they should call something that he's actually done. 2+2 or 2+10 or something like that for interference would have done the job I think.

Shame Russia won, and kudos to our defence for stepping up. Magnus Johansson played over 20 minutes just in the first two periods.

You're proud of your bonebreakers Jarko Ruutu Douglas Murray. I guess, that's because of impossibility to play hokkey well. Only rude and rough gameplay!

Aameul, I wouldn't like it if Murray checked Selänne from behind. But it probably is worth pointing out that although checking from behind was called, it wasn't. Morozov was facing him (albeit with his head down) and Murray connected with his shoulder.

Some of Murray's comments were quite stupid, but I think its almost like the furore that erupted over the World Cup incident with Zidane. Materazzi was portrayed as the bad guy just because he insulted Zidane, but everyone insults each other on the field. Similarly, there is nothing wrong with warning a guy you're going to hit him - you'll get inside his head and throw him off his game, and if you do rattle him, well then he should keep his head up.

Peacecap, of course it was clean, third game, third "clean hit", third concussion of the brain! Great result by team Sweden! Applause!

Aameul, I'm still agreeing with you. I'm not proud of our Jarkko Ruutu's not-so-glorious moments, and I'm definitely not proud of Sweden's Murray. I appreciate skillful hockey more than rough play, though sometimes even the latter is needed to spice the game up (I do NOT mean injuries, just lots of clean checks and even annoying your opponent).

I don't like Ruutu, he's Finnish. I'm Swedish. I think Murray has played very well this tournament, he keeps his play simple and is a great stay at home defender.

He's not a bad player either. Sure, he's physical, but he had a +/- of 20 in the regular season for San José, and scored a key goal in the playoffs.

I don't think that Wallin's hit was clean at all, I'm not condoning any of the earlier hits. And I think that Murray should have been penalised for interference and maybe something extra. Sergei Fedorov in an interview after the game said the hit was clean.

Peacecap, take a look once more, that was a hit from behind! http://ru.youtube.com/watch?v=MoJUMSn9kvM&feature=related

I disagree, Morozov was skating towards Murray, but his head was turned. Just look at the way he falls, he lands on his back. His skates and body are facing Murray:

I don't know why Sweden shows such dirty play on this wc. Great team, one of the wc favourites... I think such play should be punished with disqualifying such team! THREE DIRTY GAMES!

Peacecap- 05-11-2008
I wouldn't say we're one of the favourites at all. Most of our stars are locked up in NHL playoffs or not interested in coming.
