Peacecap, Morozov was skating towards the puck in the second part an arrow shows it! Well, maybe you're right, one of skates was on Morozov's head landing point.

Peacecap- 05-11-2008
He was definitely vulnerable, and although I don't think the hit was from behind, I do agree that he at least had his head turned and was starting to turn his body - a hit made in that situation would be very dangerous but not illegal. But then again, the World Championships are always very tough on things like this so I'm not surprised that he got thrown out.

Good news at least for both teams is that Strålman and Kovalchuk won't miss the next games (SWE/CZE, RUS/SUI) so we'll have more defensemen (Wallin will be back from his suspension, Jönsson will hopefully feel better etc.), and you'll have a good attacking player.

Aameul- 05-11-2008
Balder, I guess we will meet, Czechs'll show their best! And then, you'll go home, adios.

Cuemaster- 05-11-2008
i didnt see anything wrong in that hit ..... clear accident, things like that happend in icehockey ,if you dont keep head up.....give aspirine to Morozov and he´s fine

Peacecap- 05-11-2008
I think the most potentially dangerous tackle in the game was when Ovechkin went for Edler - it looked a lot like he was going for Edler's knee.

Elbowing from behind right into the head is ok, come on, guys, it's clean, anybody can hit anyone on the ice, the way they want, who cares if Morozov is injured? Who cares Sweden plays without Murray now (that's true actually, unlike the previous comment).

Anyway, my diagnosis is: Murray did a very low thing, the one that is not worthy of his status as a hockey player, it was just low, as well as his stupid smile afterwards along with the froggy stupid face of Swedish coach who enjoyed this, and as was commented somewhere - looking at his face, someone expects him to roll his tongue out catching a fly that passes by.

Aameul- 05-11-2008
Nevertheless Murray is a real bonebreaker, he acts on the edge, I've seen his "heroic deeds".

Watching that hit makes me wanna have Emelianenko brothers on our bench wink.gif

Peacecap- 05-11-2008
It wasn't from behind, and it wasn't an elbow... It's a shame that Morozov was injured, since players like him are always valuable to the national team in that they always show up and play hard (unlike Sergei Fedorov who in the NHL always whined that he didn't get enough money, and is playing for the Russian team for the first time in years). However, he should keep his head up. Murray gets him when he's vulnerable, but the only point that should be discussed regarding the legality of the hit is the location of the puck, not whether it's from behind or done with an elbow. Morozov didn't have the puck, but was fairly close to it and was going to get it if a Swede hadn't gotten there first, so I think that Murray should have gotten an interference penalty.

It would be very interesting to see the Emelianenko brothers play ice hockey.

Balder! Are you nutz? WARN? Ok, for example? I'm warning you before the game: watch your head! And then during the game I'll smash your head with a stick from behind! I'm right, and you are stupid! I warned you so I have the right to do anything I like with you! Brilliant!

It's called intimidation. to get you off your game. I'm not a hockey player, but i'm pretty sure it happens all the time. Atleast i'd do that alot to get into peoples head if i was playing lol..

In this case, opportunity knocked. Too bad he got injured from it though, but that's hockey.

Lot's of drama yesterday, too bad Ovetchkin got to be the hero after being a complete ass for 59 minutes and 54 seconds. The check by Murray was a bit childish - he had told Morozov before the game that you'd better keep your head up or I'll get you. There really shouldn't be "getting you" in hockey. I don't think even Murray in all his pride and glory wants to be responsible for injuring someone for life.

If some fancy Russian forward is gonna dipsy doodle at the blue, he's fair game for a Big Hit from a Big Dman in my books...& I don't give a rat's arse if the Dman warned him pre-game or not...it should go without saying anyway...I haven't seen the Swedes play yet, BUT it wouldn't surprise me if the Wallin hit was clean...Euros ( especially Eastern Euros ) have a tendency to over-react to these things...and many are Huge Hypocrites in my books

What was to like about that game except for the final moment? Dirty play by Swedes, that did not pay off this year as Finn's paid off last year in the semis, I'd rather enjoy "beautiful" game as you put it, unfortunately Swedes had another idea of this game, I don't like the games where people get hurt that much.

Hmmm... another Bogus Russian conspiracy theorist... Whata friggen surprise smile.gif I saw the Rus Finn semi last year and Suomi beat u fair and square...Dry ur tears/ Get over it Girlie smile.gif

So many of u Euros have such long friggen memories...and again so many are such HYPOCRITES...Most especially Whenever Canada beats u...it's cuz we gooned it up/ the refs helped us ...our guys could never outskill urs NOOOOOO

Hells Bells we still hear about the R. Neidermayer hit on Forsberg from last friggen century - which btw, was simply a case of Peter turning quickly near the boards...

We still hear from Slovaks about that hit behind the net ( five friggen years ago ) on Lasak, where our guy did everything he could to friggen avoid him, and only caught him accidentally with the tip of his stick...Who was that Neidermayer again ?

Russians are still pissin and moaning about young Sutter's hit on Cherry, calling it a VISCOUS ELBOW ....First and foremost its hockey...So ' Keep ur head up number 7 ' ...Second there was NO FRIGGEN ELBOW...Hells bells that's not even a penalty in the NHL

***
No Euro would admit this...But historically, by far the worst displays of un-sportsmanship at the WC's have been on their side of the ledger...

Any Euros recall that pelting of our players with coins , beer etc...by Latvian fans in Riga ?

How about that ALL TIME WORST diving display by Czech kids in an under 18 semi vs. Canada in ...hmmm was it Prague ? If our boyz ever acted like that , our coaches would take them behind the barn and bitch slap'em

Whatabout all that stickwork on Crosby in a Canada Swede Semi few yrs back , with a Swede giving an 18 year old Sid a viscious slash , like Ten Seconds after he scores ???

And how about that brutal mugging on Simon Gagne by a Slovak when he's behind the net celebrating a friggen goal ?

So it sounds like we Canucks have long memories too eh ? Sure but with one critical difference ...Nobody here even remembers who the offending Euro players were ...I forgot there names like five freakin minutes after it happened..

But mention R. Neidermayer to a Swede or a Slovak...or Sutter to a Russian, & they go Bloody Ballistic...

****

As for me, I'm glad the BIG BOYZ are getting -*test*-('")y , now that the WC tourney's heating up...THIS IS KANUCK-A-STAN...THIS IS HOCKEY...

Something many Euros ( excluding Finns of course ! )...especially those SAD SACK FANS OF THE RSL...KNOW PRECIOUS LITTE ABOUT...

OH *&%#! CANADA BAByyyyyyyyyyy !!!!

"Whatabout all that stickwork on Crosby in a Canada Swede Semi few yrs back , with a Swede giving an 18 year old Sid a viscious slash , like Ten Seconds after he scores ???"

I pro-*test*-('")! As a Swede, what you're saying is totally untrue. I'm pretty sure it was a cross-check to the head wink.gif

The Wallin hit wasn't that clean (the Swiss guy had been hit by one Swede, and a few seconds later Wallin came in quite high and some head-elbow contact may have taken place), but the Murray one was okay. What annoys me are the referees. Murray puts a clean hit on Morozov and he gets thrown out of the game and suspended for the next one, and Ovechkin goes and blatantly tries to take Edler's knee out and he gets 2 minutes.

Well as an completely impartial I must say the hit was clean.
Hockey's 1st rule is to protect yourself at ALL times!
Morozov's head was down, the hit was a shoulder hit.....
BUT
Morozov did not have the puck so certainly it was interference.

Personally I have a hard time with punishing the outcome rather than the crime.
I do realize that does seem to be the norm though ....even in the NHL

Here is what I did like...
both teams played to win and the game was full of emotion, not some pretty figure skating demonstration...
You have to use the tools you have, Sweden does not have the tools to play Russia in a wide open affair, at least not at this years IHWC.
So Murray's comments, to me anyway, where an attempt to throw Morozov off his game the fact that he got hurt was an accident more than anything.
Are you trying to hurt a player with a hit? maybe not hurt as much as lets say scare a player into thinking about a hit to come vs. the great play that might be at hand.
If I where Russian or Swedish my camp probably would be as I read here, you always judge your side in a more favourable light ......it's natural.

It's never good to have someone injured but that is life if you play hockey!

PS: how bad is Edler's injury??
