Yes!!!

That's the only thing that makes me feel better right now

Keisari- 05-18-2008
rightful? I dunno. Rankings don't show reality.( kidding) The russians brought it home, face it.

schmeep- 05-18-2008
dood, this is called the "silver lining", well aware of the outcome of the game.

sorry you don't agree with the "rightful" part.

Aren't we allowed to be positive?

Geez, next they'll be attacking us for celebrating a good game.

We just would like to send our congrats for Can team. Best Game. Best Play. We are flamous against the referees in the 1st period. But, finally, we did our job.
Good goals - 4 to the Nabby's area. But, we needed for the Gold much more. And we took it.

Wishing to IIHF more such games in the future!!!

With 3 gold and 2 silver in the last 6 years, it's definitely a well-deserved #1 ranking...took us two years to dethrone the Swedes from that position, hopefully we can hang on to it for a while! ihwcforums/dance.gif

Hitchcock handed the gold to you. WTF was he thinking? Rope-a-dope in the second period?

There was something not quite right with TC's coaching in this tournament. It was mentioned before in another thread by Schooley. Only he had the balls enough to question the coaching quality of an undefeated Canadian team but it was bugging me too in just about every game. Why not make the call and go with a primary goalie? Not making that call is BS. The two TC goalies are fine players but both are used to being the number one guy. The team gets to know a goalie and how he'll play the puck and key off of it. I got the same feeling about bad coaching very early on in 2006 in Turino.

There was also very little line juggling. Eric Staal didn't look right the whole game in terms of finishing, yet Hitch never tried putting another guy on that line, or yet, double shifting Getzlaf.

I also noticed very very little of Mike Green and Brent Burns after the first period.

kill your coach. what I could say more?
nevetheless - the last 10 min of the official time was of the press from the Russian T, which has been palyed with all of the 4 shifts! we also didn't agree with some mixings of Mr.Bykov to the team's shifts - Kovvy to the shift of Kazan Bars etc.
but, finally, it was a real press in the end of the game - why Canucks wasn't go to try for 5th?! Actually, It's not a soccer game - "-2" for 20 minutes on the ice - isn't any problem to keep or to beat.

Right after TC's 4th goal Hitch let the fish off the hook. The Ruskies were trying desperate long range passes that TC was picking off almost at will. One guy in on a forecheck and no one to scoop up his production? WTF was up with that?

Hitch is history.

Here it is, our consolation prize: sad.gif

New World Rankings

1 CAN 3410
2 SWE 3400
3 RUS 3400
4 FIN 3385

I remember one instance of where Gord and Pierre mentioned that Canada had adapted a two man cycle game because they were petrified of odd man rushes. Problem was a two man cycle couldn't maintain a down low presence, and the Russians just kept pouring it on.

Makes you wish Andy Murray was back.

I've been checking out the ice time of Canadian players over the course of the tournament. What I saw did not sit well with me. TC has good depth on all four lines. Hitchcock didn't roll lines consistently or evenlyfor the entire tourney and that took its toll.

BTW, I loved the hit Doane laid on Ovechkin when it was the latter trying to paste Doane. But that was the moment that Hitchcock missed entirely. It happened in the second if I remember right. Instead of going immediately back to a two man forecheck he had the team dumping the puck and one man in. Unbelievable! mad.gif

TC had TR by the nuts. Congrats to Russia for not folding for once.

what a tournament? the very first normal sparring for CAN was, seems, FINs, the next - Swedes. All other tournament? Norway? Latvia? USA - "bloody" derby (FINs get them w/o problemz)?
It was just such a group for CAN this year - several 2nd level teams. 10:1 is okey. But, not with Russia, Czechs, Switz, Belarus, Sweden etc...
