Ward will be fine.
What concerns me is the Russian ability to finish. The teams are pretty even skillwise. TC has the advantage of being able to take the physical play to the next level and being albe to pull off the moves and make the plays. However, when I watched the RUS/FIN semi, it appeared that the Russians were bigger than the Fins. Seems they picked a team for the small ice.
They are big and weigh in at ~205 lbs at a glance.
http://stats.iihf.com/Hydra/132/IHM1320RUS_33_5_0.pdfCanada is slightly smaller on average.
http://stats.iihf.com/Hydra/132/IHM1320CAN_33_6_0.pdf I bring this up because Getz wouldn't have been able to get his goal if the defender he toyed with weighed 20 more pounds.
FIN looks to be 195ish. SWE slightly bigger. USA about the same size as SWE.
This game is going to come down to physical play, IMHO. All other areas cancel out to be equal. If that be the case, TC should have the advantage because, no matter their size, they are Canadian hockey players who have played many more games against other hard hitting Canucks on the small ice.
TC has to play an honest game. Stick to fundamentals and be the hardest backchecking and forechecking motherfuckers they can be. Nail the Ruskies with some hard checks and they will begin to play Canada's game.
