So much for your "objectivity". laugh.gif The USSR/Russia hasn't even made into finals in which Canada has participated. No CCCP in the 76 CC final, no CCCP in the 84 CC final, no Russia in the 91 CC final, no Russia in the 96 WC final, no Russia in the 2002 OG final, no Russia in the 2004 WC final. Come on, buddy, give your head a shake. laugh.gif

Canada hasn't even made into finals in which USSR/Russia participated: 1956, 1957, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1978, 1979, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1986, 1987, 1990, 1993, 2002

^I count the finals where the USSR/Russia didn't show up because it is a telling stat. Canada won't win every final but it is (almost) always there. Russia is not.

Oh, and I forgot OG 1998 and previous Olympics smile.gif

I still dod not see the years where Canada was in the final and USSR/Russia was not, not necessarily even that Canada won those final...

Zereks- 05-16-2008
Oh, excuse me, but under this pretext one can always say that he failed because that was not the best year, not the best team, or that not our best guys were there.

Zereks- 05-16-2008
So, if Russia wins - they always had best of them, if Canada loses - it's because Canada did not have the best of them, I admire this logic, it's universal smile.gif Anyone can use it anywhere

laugh.gif How "Russian" of you. laugh.gif

You count results from the early years as "best on best"? laugh.gif

Canada sent teams from senior amateur leagues throughout the 50s and into the 60s. Canadian pros (even pro minor leaguers) weren't even allowed to participate in international play for decades.

Zereks, you also list years in which Canada didn't even participate in the Worlds.

Zereks, do not even bother to argue with these thick sculled canucs on this matter. Every year around this time I witness the very same damn thing - Canadieans proclaim themselfs as the best hockey nation and die-hard canadian zealots keep brining up excues for their previous defeats. My fav one is of that kind "only one win in a best on best tourney ever for Russia. The numbers for Canada?......................72, 76,84,87,91,2002,2004" How hypocritical the one should be to mention russian teams of 76,91, 2002 2004 as the best the Russians could have come up with while excluding 74,79,81 hehehe. BTW, I guess the last encounter between the very best of two nations was in 2006 and ....Canada went down in flames

Well, anyway, when all is said and done the BIG RED MACHINE has the upper hand in that hockey rivalry

74 was the WHA. The WHA didn't even have half of Canada's best players. 79 was an all star "team" that had never practiced together. No one takes anything away from the CCCP's 81 CC victory.

76,91, 2002 2004 was not the best Russia could of offered!

I find it telling that any victory by the CCCP or Russian national team system is counted as a huge victory. This despite the fact that the 74 WHA effort was a private venture from a league looking to bolster its credibility vs the much more dominant NHL. The 79 NHL one was kind of silly. One of the top NHL teams could have taken that series from the all stars. Still, these events are counted as major triumphs by Russians which underscores how the Maple Leaf is the gold standard of hockey even when represented by so so private ventures.

Ur Russian League was top heavy, really top heavy, in the 70's / 80's...( STILL IS to a lesser extent ) Moscow's Red Army ( ya ya ...CSKA -M ) won ...the Russian equivalent of the Stanley Cup ...year after year...EASILY...That Red Army team was pretty much CCCP , but when u sent Red Army overseas to play our club teams , u even augmented them with a few more top snipers , who weren't red army, but were CCCP...

This is very much an ' apples vs. oranges' argument...and dont forget too , that back in the 70's ...the NHL was further watered down by the rival WHA...

Hells bells, the WHA's Winnipeg Jets, led by Bobby Hull...crushed CCCP to the tune of 7-2 one time...

So what woulda happened if we sent our best NHL + WHA stars, to play ur club teams eh ? Everyone save Red Army...woulda got slaughtered !

The Habs of the 70s had 6 players on the 1976 Canada Cup team, but if you augmented that team with the French Connection line of the Sabres and added a Denis Potvin on defense.

Then tour the Soviet hockey league's club teams, what would the result have been?

you lost 1974 Series

That was the WHA team Canada of course...Not a single NHLer on it, which you ought to have mentioned...since it was nothing close to our best, even though it DID have some former NHL stars . Team WHA 1974 was never embraced across Canada ( a la our 1972 team )

For the most part our media ignored it too, quick remind me of the scores ?

Nobody here knows/remembers or cares...
